“O’Malley is Concentrating on Being Governor…”
I guess part of being Governor is going out to play with your rock band.
I guess part of being Governor is going to California for TV Shows.
I guess part of being Governor is flying to South Beach in Miami, Florida.
I guess part of being Governor is ignoring the entire private business sector, as Business and Economic Development Secretary Christian Johnansson admitted that they do.
I guess part of being Governor is skipping out on State duties to go be on stage with the President or Vice-President with 12 hours notice.
I guess part of being Governor is chasing Fortune 500 companies out of the state with high taxes, over regulation, and a lack of foresight.
I guess part of being Governor is raising taxes on vehicle purchases, including hybrids, as he economy is in freefall and manufacturing jobs are at risk.
These are the things that Governor Martin O’Malley has been doing in the past 6 months, and according to his spokesman, he’s “concentrating on being Governor”.
Since Obama was running for office of President and still today as elected President, I wonder who is his marionette? He is puppet, but question is to whom? He does not have the smarts or experience to be our President. He is eloquent speaker yes. But thats about it.
Thank you Flower Child for your implication that Obama’s policies appear to be well thought out. You say that he does not have the experience or smarts to be our President and ask who is controlling him (puppeteer) - that would imply that he is doing a better job than you think he could.
I also think Obama has been doing a pretty good job - he could have pushed harder for the public option and he can yet keep us too long in Afghanistan, but so far, I think averting the worst depressionsince the Great Depression is pretty good. Way to go Obama.
Another John: Obama has done such a grand job that the price of gold has risen 27% in 2009. It was trading today at $1,110.00/oz. I guess that the rest of the world doesn’t share your assessment of his fiscal prowess.
Tommy, first of all, gold is a global commodity. There are quite a few more factors that figure into its price than the U.S. economy.
Also, you think this price is good indicator that your money would be better off in gold than in U.S. currency? Are you willing to pay $1,100 per ounce? Let us all know what your answer is. Look at who the buyers are and you’ll get a good idea of why the price is so high.
Also, adjusted for inflation, you’ll see that gold is nowhere near its high. Gold is a terrible indicator of future economic performance. You’d be better off sticking to the savings ratio. We’ve only just begin to get that back up after the debacle of the past seven years (though I don’t think Bush is completely to blame for the poor savings rate).
Gold is a terrible long-term investment. Commodity markets are relatively illiquid for the small investor; it’s all-time, adjusted for inflation high is $1835.00 so it has a way to go before it touches that level. A strong dollar and rising gold are bearish trends that generally indicate short term fear in the stock market. Gold has little utility and actually, if you’re going to mess with commodities copper and corn are much better long-term. Stop listening to those fear inducing informercials.
(Or that idiot Jim Cramer.) If you really have to be in gold buy an ETF but don’t buy physical gold. Gold is actually a contra-indicator meaning as it continues to rise the probability increases
that equities are undervalued. Look, there’s a tidal wave of cheap money washing around the globe and as such it will seek the location where it can be put to use most profitability. Gold is not its final destination.
Google “Copper + long-term prices.” Click on the second link displayed and you can look at the long and short term price trends for all types of commodities. Nickel, cadium, lithium, fascinating stuff.
Indy: I am not using gold as an indicator of future economic performance. I am pointing out that its continued climb in value is mirrored by the continued drop in the value of the U.S. dollar. We are not getting back from any economic debacle, we are accelerating our race towards another. We are printing so much money and running up so much debt, we are looking more and more like the Weimar Republic each day. Or is it Zimbabwe?

In one sentence you claim that you aren’t using gold as an indicator as future economic performance. Then a few sentences later you claim that it shows that we are accelerating our race toward an economic debacle. Which one is it? Do you think gold a good forward looking indicator or not? If so, have you transferred your assets into gold yet? If we are on the verge of such a massive loss of value, then why not?
Those on the right claiming that the dollar decline is leading to a big debacle refuse to put their money where their mouth is. Go ahead and buy at this price if you like. We’ll see in year’s time who is laughing. Actually, I won’t be laughing because those who were foolish enough to do so will then cry poverty about how Obama manufactured the decline in the gold market and they are barely making ends meet with all our high taxes and such. Boo-hoo.

So I come up with about 9% depreciation against the Euro so far this year. This comes after 7% APPRECIATION against the Euro in 2008 (you remember, while we were passing TARP, etc?).
Guess what the dollar did against the yuan over that time: 0% (trick question)
So much for the “race” toward economic debacle. I think the manufacturers and their workers will be quite happy with the state of affairs when our goods are 9% cheaper in Europe than they were at the beginning of the year.

Agree, but, in the past presidency, we lacked tangible goals for leaving. Therefore, I ask, do you have an exit strategy.
My thoughts would be fix any infrasture we broke, fix their electric power generation, and build schools. We don’t care who rules.

Janet Napolitano says her agency is working with groups across the United States to try to deflect any backlash against American Muslims following Thursday’s rampage by Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a Muslim who reportedly expressed growing dismay over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The shootings left 13 people dead and 29 wounded.
Napolitano was in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday for talks with security officials and a meeting with women university students in Abu Dhabi.
