Chris Christie Wins…

By Martin Watcher

I’m going to take a different view of the New Jersey Governor’s election than most others, a view that I think is much more accurate, and much more important to Maryland. The election of Chris Christie in New Jersey was not a rebuke of President Obama or his policies. In fact, what the New Jersey election showed is that voters are willing to separate their strong support and approval of President Obama, and still vote against a failed Governor with no ability to lead.

For pundits, voters, and politicians to even believe that the New Jersey vote yesterday was a rejection or slap at Obama or the Democrat Party is a misguided attempt to nationalize what was clearly a local rejection of a notorious liar. New Jersey Governor Jon Corzize made tons of promises, broke them all, and raised taxes (or got rid of tax rebates in place is more accurate) and voters rejected that failed record. If it was a rebuke of Democrats or Obama, why did the down ballot races in New Jersey pretty much all go to the Democrats currently in power, even with looming scandals over some of their heads?

New Jersey’s electoral success also showed us, that even in a state as rough and tumble in politics as it is, New Jersey voters still rejected negative advertising. The kind of negative advertising that flooded the airways thanks to help from Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley and the Democratic Governor’s Association that he is Vice-President of. Negative advertising only tears down ideas and opportunity, but for a failed leader, it is the easiest route to victory they can see. Hopefully, all candidates will take notice of this in 2010, and run a campaign built on ideas and records, rather than smears and lies.

And the next story line from New Jersey should be that the millions of dollars that Corzine put into his campaign from his failure at Goldman Sachs did not matter either. The $24 million spent by Corzine (with $23 million coming from his personal funds) vastly out distanced the $8 million spent Chris Christie, yet slick TV ads couldn’t overcome the failure of the record.

Now Virginia is another story…

My day of mourning for the Democrats in NJ and VA is over. I find the celebratory tone on here infectious. Voice of Reason, if this is all it takes to get Ehrlich in the game, I’d say he wasn’t really that much on the edge in the first place. Most people have been expecting him to run for some time, but I do feel badly for the folks he is leaving hanging.

Detective ****, you SAY you want “free” money, but are you willing to do what it takes to qualify? I’m betting not. After all, this “free” money will cost you quite a bit to give up enough to get down to an income that would qualify. Plus you would have to move to an economically depressed area of the state(the article only mentions Baltimore, but rural people are served by this program than urban). Good Luck!! I’m looking forward to hearing updates on your progress.

Ehrlich doesn’t want to run anything other than his mouth. He wants to be guaranteed a win lest he look like a two time loser.

Greg, What record is O Malley running on??? How he raised Taxes, Sales tax? Sat in peoples homes, and told all of Maryland he was lowering taxes? then has a Special BS Session that actually raised them. Or was it how he lowered Electic Rates? Increased his staff size with Mac daddy pay raises? Or is it his Leadership? that directly told his staffers to lay low in OC while on the Taxpayers dime, and there 60 drunken party pictures suface 3 days later? Or is it that Office he opened in Vietnam for Marylands Economic Development? Maybe its his imitation of Don Pardo…….introducing BRACCCCCCCC OOOOOOOBAMMMMMAAAA! when he supported Hillary, just to name a few wonderful things during his tenure, maybe it was buying that Swampland on the Potomac from the Catholic Church, that was alreadt protected by Federal and State laws….Hummm Greg you cound beat O Malley in a Election with just the truth!

    BG 69585,

A little crass, but I agree.

If Ehrlich couldn’t win re-election as the incumbent with a 60% voter approval rating, he sure isn’t likely to run against a Democratic incumbent unless he KNOWS he can win. Otherwise, that could be the end of his political career.

My guess is he’ll keep the powder dry for now. If he runs at all in 2010, it will be against Babs.

    Indy, on 69584;
I have PDA’s however my point was that the “free money” pie is only so large. I just scratch my head a wonder. I also wonder how many have cable that they pay for and get a “free” phone. Shouldn’t we all get to be realistic and STOP the money madness.

Once a “free” program is started is just grows thru outreach. Remember if you don’t spend all the money in a “progrem” how can you justify more “free” money to give away.

More later, I am in traffic returning from DC

AVCC, why so quit today? when I offered you a chance to have a Hilton nite? a Spa Night?, and a Maryland dinner @ Higgins and all the crab you could eat? It was a dream come true, all paid for by me, and just for you to treasure Maryland, Ocenn City, the beach, boardwalk, and Higgins Crabs, all paid for. Amazing, and a gift, so you could recharge, and believe in Maryland without as of late your bitterness. I have learned, its your way or the highway, and worst most on here have seen you SNAP! on them…….This is Maryland plain truth only the taxes go up and those in office get more drunk with power, I think at times I am in CT or MA, just Maryland…..But in the mean time, I was sincere, I would called the Hilton, and made your reservation, under AVCC, paid for, and Higgins Paid for!… What a wonderful chap I am, just for you, sorry I am not in the secret club, on here… But your loss of words of my great offer was priceless, sadly you failed to enjoy a Great Day in Maryland, and you would have enjoyed reflecting, visiting OC, which this time of year is wonderful, Thrasher’s is Open, sales everywhere, Kettle corn just a smile, you could recall being there 30 years ago, seeing, smelling the beach the surf, the sun and the breeze………It would have been the best 500.00 I spent all year…….Knowing you where there and enjoy it! Realizing Maryland….. Thats Ok , I tried to give you a smile, a moment, to enjoy, a time to reflect on our Maryland, your home, a Joy. But a ah never a word! I enjoy being a wonderful person that can give, my 11 yr old son says it best, everyday is like Christmas with Dad, and it is. I have not a worry in the world. as I can afford it! In closing AVCC, personally its a real bad damm sad day at Ft. Hood in Texas, I felt sorry for the Lt.Gen, and his 3 Stars, his watch, his base his charge. Terrible, but as America watches, the truth is going to take! days to come out, as the Network news doesnt have the network drop, on that base as Its Locked………..The Military/Army and pentagon decides what you hear…………Not Katie Coric….

You trice up and have a nice day, let me know if you want that beach day??? I will be heading down friday afternoon..when I go I take no cell phone, or computer…..Just the Family, in our JEEP!

If Ehrlich should run for governor in 2010, things to remember. He ran his first gubernatorial campaign against Glendennings’ record and won. O’Malley beat Ehrlich by linking him to President Bush’s record. Should Ehrlich run in 2010, he can run against both O’Malley’s record and President Obama’s. Should he decide to run for the senate, he has a similar situation, although Mikulski’s relative low key manner except at election time could be a difficulty.
