Martin O’Malley’s Gift to Trial Lawyers
It’s no surprise that Governor Martin O’Malley wants to do anything he can to help out the trial lawyers that helped fund his campaign. Remember that last minute $500,000 loan that came from trial lawyer and scientologist extraordinaire John Coale? But what could a Governor do for trial lawyers especially considering that the State has already given a gift of a very friendly tort system for medical malpractice?
Mandatory mediation prior to a foreclosure.
I know, I know, it’s a good thing for a homeowner to be able to have mediation prior to losing their house, but it’s an even better thing for the lawyers that are going to represent both sides. And guess who is going to pay for the lawyers on both sides… well in Governor Martin O’Malley’s world, the mortgage company. So here will be a bunch of lawyers doing “research” for a foreclosure case, only to send the bill to someone that isn’t their client. It sounds to me like there will be no accountability for those lawyers. The Capital Newspaper in Annapolis has details about how there currently are problems with the number of lawyers available to represent clients.
But nobody is going to feel sympathetic for the evil mortgage companies that are stealing people’s homes. Of course, Baltimore City’s lawsuit against Wells Fargo for the company following federal law isn’t going anywhere, but let’s look at this continued legal situation.
The U.S. Constitution prevents the practice of an “Ex Post Facto” law, meaning a law that is passed to punish a prior action. I would argue if we are going to change the rules on a mortgage company, after they have already made a loan, in a way that would significantly raise their cost, then it is a violation of their rights. If Wells Fargo is going to be required to pay or your lawyer during mediation, they need to put those costs into the loan that they sell you, but they can’t go back and modify their loan with you to make it more expensive because that would be a violation of the terms of the loan; however, it is ok for the Government to do this.
It goes back to that populist mentality that our Governor has that destroys Maryland’s business standing. He is shouting from the roof-tops that Governor Martin O’Malley hates businesses. But he loves voters, and will do anything for a voter, regardless of what is right and fair.

Beltway Greg…I see your point, but how in the Hell do they? or are they? allowed to keep the Caddy with its 770.00( initally said it was 470.00) a month carpayment, but the credit card people they get it shoved up there……..I have to laugh at it all……She is smiling saying wowwee all my credit card debt is over with 45K, as she pulls up to Food Bank in a Caddilac Escalade, It makes no sense…….Kind like health insurance, some pay and others dont! Your turn!
Voice of non reason
Hey, I am women, I don’t do the tool thingy, but I bought B&D rechargeable everything. Dustbuster, Scumbuster, Flashlights, Powered scrubber. Anything they sold to make my cleaning easier.
None of the products lived up to my expectations via sales pitch.
By them going into financial hardship, I’d say I’m not alone. Word of mouth is more powerful than false advertisement.
Kinda like our politicians, wouldn’t you say?
Concerning the B&D merger, if you read the Sun, one of the submitted comments is about the recent closing of B&D plants in Easton and Hampstead.
Yes, those “working families” lost there jobs. I can imagine some of those former employees are not feeling concerned about the B&D Headquarters personnel.
Dect D……..Let me guess? In 6 months Stanley, will be operating those plants, and there people will be running the place………
AVCC…….What cleaning products electrical live up to your expectations???? We are holding our breath?
Cleaning O’Malley out of office with my very high electric rate.
Hey, check out the Baltimore Sun blog page.
Someone is spewing spam and the stupid Baltimore Sun is allowing it to happen.
I agree with you about the politicians part anyway. :-). I don’t know why you call me “non reason”. We usually agree on everything. I don’t know anything about a sales pitch. That sounds like a problem with the retail sales guy overpromising performance. As for cleaning, my wife uses good old fashioned elbow grease. Seems to work every time and it keeps her “polishing” skills in tip top shape.
Last comment about B&D and the reality of Government action. Little discussed in the cause and affect world of the WTO, the USA was the leader on 9/12/01 to grant China most favored Nation status. The day after 911.
So who cares? Well, later that year I was at a cocktail party in the “Hereford Zone”. At the party a person with a PDA was talking and transfering data to China, he was a designer and VP at B&D. From 2002 to 2007 B&D shares went from $37 to $94 based on cheap labor and cheap quality from China as the cash flowed into earnings.
Today you don’t buy a brand name tool product, if you want new tools you go to Harbor Tool Freight (100% Chinese knock off products) and buy disposable.
Tools and the products made by Stanley and Black and Decker are Chinese junk! even the Baldwin Brass is made in China.
Black and Becker provide NO customer service!
So who is next on the long list of Maryland’s Corporate exits? Remeber
-CSX (B&O/C&0)
-Bell Atlantic
-Beth Steel
-GM
-Fairchild
-Martin Marrietta
-Bayliner
-AAI
-Rouse
-MNC
-Alex Brown
-and the list goes on, could CEG move to Florida?
And after the Mafia Queen Nancy Pelosi gets Obamacare onto the desk of BHO, how many Blue Cross/Blue Shield employees and other Insurance Co. personnel will be entering the unemployment lines?
Gone for now,
Voice of Reason
We usually agree on everything.
You really think so?, because I respectfully disagree.
Most things, anyway. I just would like to clear the air. I think you have been hostile toward me since I stopped lurking. The few times I’ve taken a different point than you or offered up the mildest criticism of your stance you’ve taken serious umbrage. Letting whatever ill will you’ve held toward me carry into subsequent comminications. It’s a bit frustrating becauselike I said we agree on almost everything here (except whether Bob is the best guy to stop O’Malley–he is!). I do respect the civil tone you take with me and I will try to do likewise.

This means something, Gold Breaks OUT!
IMF sells India 200 tonnes of Gold for $6,7bn
http://www.businessday.co.za/articles/Content.aspx?id=85875
Just remember, gold went up by a factor of 7 during the Carter years. Hummmmm
DD,
In constant dollars, meaning adjusted for inflation, gold is well below its all-time high of $2300/ounce in 1980. If you bought in 1980 you’re still underwater and could’ve invested in dozens of other asset classes that would’ve performed much better than gold.
And, constantly harping on gold reinforces the idea that you don’t know what you’re doing with your money. Check out copper or some other commodity. They have real utility and have performed much better over the years. Why do you think the IMF sold if it’s going through the roof? They recognize the top and sold it to India so that they can use it to begin to stabilize their economy. Remember, stabilization isn’t growth. Stop getting investment ideas off of the shills on conservative
talk radio.

I hear you loud and clear.

AVCC:
DeWalt which is Black and Decker make excellent tools. I have been pining for their cutoff saw for years.
Black and Decker competes effectively by farming out production to China…I don’t know how much of it is really American any more.
My comments in 69509 were about FEAR plus you can be assured I do not get my advise from any Shills.
However, sometimes the forest has some dead trees.

Note the dates……May, 2008 and 196 pages of facts and opinions.
Help me mommy. Obviously Mr. Buffett thinks otherwise.
Look go long Olin (OLN) it sells chemicals and bullets.
Diageo they sell booze. (DEO)
Pepco (POM) absurdly low plus a yield of 8%
Temple Inland (TIN) they sell housing supplies
And COP Conoco Phillips. They sell/refine oil and natural gas.
Stop with the gold trade fear monger. Note the date: before Obama was elected.
BG,
Overall good advice.
But I had to chuckle at your last observation - that the article was written BEFORE Obama’s election.
Like he and his administration have done anything to improve our fiscal standing and support the dollar’s valuation!
No, the devaluation of the dollar is NOT all GWB’s fault, and soon enough, even liberals will figure that out.
Barack hussein Obama. Mmm mmm mmm. Barack hussein Obama. Ha ha ha. Never have I seen a huse of cards fold so rapidly. McDonnell’s smashing win tonight means that within a year Republicans will be in control of states from Florida to the midAtlantic. Tax cut baby. Expel illegals baby. Buy your own friggin health care baby. I telll you we are one small step from making the feds irrelevant. The laboratory of democracy will prove once and for all thaty YES tax cuts do solve all of society’s woes. And the things they don’t soilve aren’t society’ problems but those of individuals. How will the feds dole out their welfare when their middlemen at the state level won’t play ball. In fact maybe we set the tax rate of federal benefits at 90% and see how THEY like it.
Goodbye welfare
Goodbye immigrants
Goodbye speciaal rights for minoriries **** and women
Goodbye gun restrictions
Goodbye zoning regulations
Goodbye speed cameras
Goodbye free public education for animals
Goodbye endless appeals for criminals
Goodbye coddling illegal activist groups
The days of liberal hegemony are numberered. Stay tuned for a special announcement later this month.

I had gullwings and SL’s. I would fix and sell. I thought I was making money and I was, but not as much if I would of held them.
Parts we a hugh issue on SL’s because each of the 4435 made were hand crafted and required the cars numbers to be sent to Germany for exact copies.
Final thought for the night,
Good Old Stupid O’Malley should be worried and chewing his nails. A REAL Democrat can challenge O’Malley in the primary and beat him.
All of his Green, Working Family, Common Good, only a penny, Healthcare for ALL, and the BHO Progressive GARBAGE will end!
Say good night Martin, we will make a bronze figure of your hard head and place it in the Hall of Losers
What wbout NY 23 with a “real” idelogical conservative. Ooops - that one was the GOPs to lose and they did it.
Never underestimate the stupidity of the GOP.
AJ, I guess they can spin the total numbers and say if you add the two losers together the Dem would have lost. But it does not work that way. I am surprised at Bloomberg only getting 51% iin NYC.
The conclusion of yesterdays election is that O’Malley and the GA now have to work for the 2010.
God Grief! 2 GOP new Governors! Where can I get my Bob Ehrlich 2010 Lawn Signs?????? Raise some more Taxes King Martin, its like putting wood under the POT your Cooking in. Raise that GAS TAX O King Martin! you can do it! But you can’t cut a Budget 10% Spend some more Taxpayers Money, Go for it!
Hey Another John, Indyprog, Beltway Greg and other liberal tax cut deniers, where’s your Messiah now?
Aaa-ha-ha-ha-hahahaha. We’re about to get a conservative Utopia in Virginia. Couple that with the change a-comin’ in Maryland and you folks are going to have to run to Vermont. Even Maine won’t take you after the beatdown they gave the **** last night.
At this rate he may not even wait until Thanksgiving. Run Bob Run!!
