HOLY SH… PSC Raises Your Electricity Bill Again
I can’t believe this one. I read it over and over again and can’t believe it. The PSC that Martin O’Malley installed to “save” the consumers from more expensive electricity bills adds an extra dollar a month to pay for each household to receive 2 compact fluorescent light bulbs. The reasoning behind the PSC giving this was that those rubes and hicks out in Western Maryland wouldn’t know where to even get one of our new fangled light bulbs.
I received a copy of this first from a Western Marylander who has already replaced all the bulbs in his house with compact fluorescent lights, so the two that he was charged 12 bucks for are a waste for the next 7 years. The PSC probably thinks he is one of them enlightened rednecks. The thing that really annoys Democrat Delegate Kevin Kelly is that the bulbs are being paid for at a premium rate. First you would think that if you bought 440,000 lightbulbs, you’d get a discount, but instead they are charging an extra $5 than the Lowe’s price.
So Democrat Delegate Kevin Kelly tells the Baltimore Sun, “It appears the Public Service Commission is in bed with the utilities to the absolute total disregard of the rate payers.”
But in the BGE area its worse. You are paying an extra fee and aren’t even getting the lightbulb. Instead you are subsidizing light bulbs for everybody that buys them from Costco or Home Depot. So if you don’t shop at those two stores, you don’t get to take advantage of that extra $1 a month your paying.
Baltimore City Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke (D) said, “Why should we all pay for a discount we may not be able to use because we can’t get there or we may not choose to use?”
Because Councilwoman Clarke, Government is making your decisions for you.
Now in the Martin Watcher household we have already replaced every single bulb but 3 with Compact Fluorescent lights. Those three are mini-plug lights and it is difficult to find CFLs that use those. But since we already paid for our bulbs, we won’t get to take advantage of our Martin O’Malley PSC enforced rate increase.
Here’s a bigger question for the PSC. When those light bulbs do go dead, where are we going to put them? You see, you can’t throw a CFL away in the normal trash because it contains mercury which leaks and contaminates groundwater. Eh… get thinking buddy.
Or better yet, don’t think, just copy other States. California wants to control our thermostats…
“Ahh Martin Watcher, quit complaining about a dollar on your electric bill. It’s for the greater good.” Well I’m keeping track. That’s considered a 1.1% increase on the average BGE bill above what it was in 2006. Therefore, thanks to Martin O’Malley we now have a 73.6% increase in our electric bills.
I had hopes that O’Malley would introduce some energy policies that would actually lower costs. If his idea of lowering costs is to increase costs in order to save the environment, I think many of those BGE “Had Enough?” stickers will be changing. You’re not fighting the utilities if you are just giving them what they want every single time.

APG is not the only employer who has retired military commuting from PA and/or DE.
Northrop Grumman has the same situation, if not moreso, as most of the retired USAF folks I know also commute from PA, DE and a few from WV.
Another Watcher,
From MOM’s perspective, his problem with these requirements is that it may be more difficult to solicit votes from people who meet the requirements you outlined in your above post.
I stopped by the Board of Elections in Catonsville Friday to change my mailing address. I had to enter either my state-issued driver’s license number or my state-issued MVA ID card number. I asked what would happen if I didn’t have either of these and the receptionist, Mary Frances (a very nice woman, by the way), didn’t know. No wonder they want the illegals to have driver’s licenses. Would they be able to use their two-tier license number to register to vote?
By the way, if you have to have a state-issued ID to register to vote, why would it be cumbersome and a burden on the elderly, poor, and uneducated to have to show a voter ID card with picture to vote?

That sound like a good idea but these liberals would vote it down in Annapolis any way.
Is there really a problem with illegal immigrants voting? Please cite data.
I am not aware of any wide spread voter fraud or data that points to this being a problem.
On the other hand, this country does have a proven record of disenfranchising minority voters. In fact the GOP has such a lousy history that there is a legal agreement with the Republican Party (please correct me if I am wrong) that the party agrees to not engage in voter caging (an agreement which apparently the current administration has reneged on). If you are unfamiliar with the tactic, google it.
The issue of illegal voters is at least to me a racist issue which is focused on illegal Mexican immigrants. If it weren’t a race thing, then where is the outrage about the unguarded Canadian border and all those Canadians taking American jobs? Oh, but a bunch of Canadian constructions workers look just like Americans.
As I stated before, for a Mexican with no higher level skill such as a Doctor or an Engineer, there is no legal pathway for immigration (excluding reunification with family members already in the U.S.) The whole legal versus illegal is a canard as far as low skilled workers are concerned.
Abovef says:
“this country does have a proven record of disenfranchising minority voters. In fact the GOP has such a lousy history …..”
Let’s see. Prior to 1865 the black slaves did not vote because the Dem Party owned them. Then for 100 years after 1865, the Dems made sure the blacks had a hard time voting. They called it “the solid south.”
Get real.
I think its funny, but worst sad. We should offer O’Malley Ideas on here. He has surrounded himself with Idiots. His principle advisior just quit, humm wonder why? Im betting oh Gov blamed him for the polls…who cares? A professional knows rule #1 “surround yourself with loyal educated people you trust” as you move up. This poor clutz O’Malley has a band of Idiots around him, and worst he knows it. One must honestly think even his Dems are on the Run since there votes will not be there to re elect them after the Special Session.
The regular session, is in for surprises, know it and realize it. Maryland has become Tired, Worn, and Taxed……….and those elected have made some real mistakes, in these “troubled times” Oil is Up, Gas is Up, Home heating Oil off the Roof, BG@e is up, Killing people. and O’Malley isnt doing anything, Worst taxes are up. Maryland is in the Recession, Know it. And O’malley delievered the Death Blow with the Additional TAXES, Railroaded THROUGH……..
Mr. Miller and Busch Thank you, for letting the little clown make you his Clown. He could not achieve a City and you let him screw you into a State. Pg Co, Mont Co…. Sorry pay your bills, everyone in Maryland doesnt need to Fund your ****!\\
Sorry I am not positive, But little boy blue, your approval rating is in the toilet, where you really are. You are not Qualified to be the Governor of this State and need to Resign , for your Hono! You and Sheila are not Crime fighters, most Marylanders have a voodoo doll of you both.
Another John,
When you land your space craft, please let me know personally, how long you were in outer space? When did you launch and leave? You have about decade to catch up your thoughts. Sorry Its all changed. Thanks for going in to Space and Welcome Back Sir.

My hope is the Whiner reads this blog and realizes the only honorable action he can take is to resign his position. He owes the people of Maryland that and needs to put them ahead of himself.
Check this out (from the MD Comptroller website): “If you file your sales and use tax return and pay your sales tax on a timely basis, you are allowed to keep a portion of the sales tax as a discount. The allowable discount for timely filing and paying is 1.2 percent of the first $6,000 collected and 0.9 percent for the amount above $6,000.”
I believe the amount business are entitled to keep is capped at $500 per return filed.
Unlike withholding and unemployment taxes, sales tax is paid by the customer; the business simply forwards what the customer paid in sales tax to the state. That money doesn’t belong to them, so why should there be a discount for paying it “on a timely basis”? I wonder if this “incentive” applies to all of the WalMarts, McDonald’s and Dollar Stores in the state?
Just read today’s BS. Too bad I can’t make a comment on the conservation article. If you want to increase conservation, increase the prices by 72 percent again, say you are doing it because you have no choice (because it’s for the environment), and then tout your record of how you are making things better for working families. It’s happened once already.
Taxpayer:
Yes, I understand that the Democratic party was the party that stood for slavery and segregation. I also understand that Johnson lost the White South with the passage of the Civil Rights Bill. Obviously, the minority black community feels that the Democratic party is looking out for their interests more than the GOP, either they are wrong and therefore stupid, or there is a difference that explains this political break along party lines.
Pluto: Apparently I was not out that long since the recent testimony by Monica Goodling showed that the issue of Vote caging is alive and well in the GOP.
He done did it again. (I expect this is what Libglib is referring to.)

O’Malley to Offer Energy Package
Plan boosts conservation, could raise consumer costs
And yet, I get the sensation he isn’t really for pushing the construction of another nuclear facility.

Tax all those who cross the border. Then kick them out.
David:
We do tax them to the tune of billions in social security taxes.
I agree, the American Indians need to kick all the immigrants in North America out.
Me, you are incorrect about who is responsible for the sales tax. By law, it is the retailer who “officially” pays the tax. Of course, they pass the cost on to the consumer, but if you look at the language of the bill, it is the responsibility of the retailer to remit the tax to the state, not the buyer. In fact, in border areas, the retailer has to eat much of the tax (in the form of lower profits) because of the price differential generated by otherwise equally-priced goods. The supposedly “passed through” tax is just part of the price he pays. If part of the overall cost is the tax and the seller has to keep pace with an over the border competitor, the tax comes directly out of his profit, not the the buyer’s pocket.
Regarding the CFL’s; just wiait until you start replacing them in your table and floor lamps. You’ll be spending more to purchase larger replacement harps, because more often than not, the larger bulbs won’t fit inside the old harps.
Another John,
Are you an American Indian or are you an immigrant?
The expression “vote caging” was invented by the Dems to describe efforts by the Reps to clean voter registration list of deceased and otherwise unqualified persons. You must follow State law to do that and the law usually requires mailing a registered letter to the listed voter with the marking, “do not forward.” When the letter is returned to you, you must complete a form requesting the person be removed from the voter’s registration listing. Many States require two such mailings and most all have additional requirements.
The Reps target high Dem registration areas which, for the most part, are cities with high Black population. It is these cities where Dems have set up well known vote fraud operations based on illegal registrations and voting. Examples are Boston, New York, Baltimore, Detroit and Chicago.
No, I do not believe Blacks are stupid but the Dems make sure the amount of misinformation they are exposed to is enough to keep them voting Dem. For instance, It was the Dems who fought the 1964 Civil Rights Act with a record length filibuster in the US Senate. In fact, the leader of filibuster is still in the Senate, Byrd of West Virginia. Byrd is also a life-long member f the Klu Klux Klan.

Then by all means,be the first one to leave.Don’t let the door hit you on the a$$ on your way out.
Taxpayer. More for your blog.
From an article by Michael Zak, August 8, 2003
In the Senate, Minority Leader Everett Dirksen had little trouble rounding up the votes of most Republicans, and former presidential candidate Richard Nixon also lobbied hard for the bill. Senate Majority Leader Michael Mansfield and Senator Hubert Humphrey led the Democrat drive for passage, while the chief opponents were Democrat Senators Sam Ervin, of later Watergate fame, Albert Gore Sr., and Robert Byrd. Senator Byrd, a former Klansman whom Democrats still call “the conscience of the Senate”, filibustered against the civil rights bill for fourteen straight hours before the final vote. The House of Representatives passed the bill by 289 to 126, a vote in which 79% of Republicans and 63% of Democrats voted yes. The Senate vote was 73 to 27, with 21 Democrats and only 6 Republicans voting no. President Johnson signed the new Civil Rights Act into law on July 2, 1964.

What a phony baloney this guy is. He’s Hillary Clinton without the cheesy plastic surgery. Pure ambition. Blamed the BGE rate hike on Ehrlich (wrong!) and promised to fix it (impossible!). Can you believe so many people bought off on that?
I hope all the union lunkheads, soccer moms, dope smokers, and gimme-gimme types who voted for this guy are happy about THEIR pockets being picked as well as OURS. I hope are happy about that “message” they sent to George Bush by voting OUT an otherwise popular and competent Governor Ehrlich who had the misfortune to belong to the party they wanted to blindly punish.
